US LLC ยท for Ghanaian founders

A US company, from Ghana.

Stripe still holds no Bank of Ghana licence, and Paystack, its local stand-in, was not built to pay out individuals, which is exactly why creator payouts sat stuck in Ghana through mid-2026. A US LLC with its own Stripe account sidesteps that bottleneck instead of waiting for someone else to build the bridge.

What Ghanaian guides skip

Stripe is licensing-blocked, not just unavailable

Stripe holds no Bank of Ghana licence, and Paystack, its local subsidiary, was built for merchants collecting payments, not for paying out individual creators and freelancers. New BoG guidelines from January 2026 require foreign payments to route through licensed structures, which is exactly why X payouts to Ghanaian creators sat stuck through mid-2026. A US LLC with its own EIN gets genuine Stripe access that does not depend on that bridge ever getting built.

BoG's forex rules govern domestic pricing, not your international income

The Foreign Exchange Act, 2006 (Act 723) restricts pricing, invoicing and receiving payments in foreign currency between Ghanaian entities. Genuine international transactions, including the income your US LLC earns from clients abroad, sit outside that specific restriction. Forming the company is unrestricted either way.

Your GRA position does not disappear

Ghana taxes residents on worldwide income under the Income Tax Act, 2015 (Act 896). Freelancers register as self-employed with a Tax Identification Number, file quarterly once turnover passes GHS 120,000 a year, and a 1% E-Levy applies to mobile money and bank transfers above GHS 100 a day. A US LLC changes none of this. Ask a GRA-registered adviser how the LLC's profit lands on your Ghanaian return.

Can you actually open a US bank account?

The honest answer, which is more than most providers will give you.

What actually works for Ghanaian founders

  • Wise Business is the strongest option, using the real mid-market rate rather than a marked-up one.
  • Payoneer is the practical choice if your income already comes through Upwork, Fiverr or a similar platform.
  • Chipper Cash works for smaller amounts.
  • Stripe becomes usable once the LLC has its EIN, which is the whole point of forming it.

What to know before you rely on it

  • PayPal is receive-limited in Ghana and cannot withdraw straight to a Ghanaian bank account, which surprises people who assume it works the way it does elsewhere.
  • We cannot confirm Mercury's or Relay's acceptance of Ghanaian founders as confidently as we can for other countries on this list. Apply and verify directly rather than assuming either way.
  • A registered agent address is not a business address, which matters for whichever provider you use.
  • The EIN takes 4-6 weeks for non-US founders, and most payment tools need it before they fully activate.

Why we say this out loud. Every competitor advertises a US bank account as though it were part of the package. It is not, for anyone, and pretending otherwise just moves the disappointment to after you have paid. Form the company for the entity, the EIN and the ability to take Stripe payments. Treat the bank account as a separate application with a real chance of rejection.

How this works. NameMarshal is not a law firm or an accountancy practice, and nothing on this page is legal or tax advice. Company formation, EIN and registered agent services here are fulfilled by our formation partner doola. Foreign-owned US LLCs generally have to file Form 5472 with a pro-forma Form 1120 every year, even with no income, and the penalty for missing it is steep. Ask us and we will point you at someone licensed to handle it.
